Woodward, Okla. — WEATHERFORD - Sharon-Mutual's bid to play for the Class C state football championship ended in heartbreaking fashion here Saturday.

Second-ranked and defending champion Tipton edged the Trojans 42-40 in double overtime in the semifinals to earn a shot at No. 1 Cherokee in next week's title contest. Cherokee beat Shattuck 42-6 earlier in the day.

While Tipton improved to 12-0, Sharon-Mutual saw its season end at 11-2. It was the third consecutive year the Trojans lost to Tipton in the semifinals.

This one will go down as one of the most exciting playoff games in any class this year.

Sharon-Mutual had a pair of early leads, then fell behind 28-12 at halftime.

But in the second half the Trojans forced 3 turnovers on defense and turned pair of them into long touchdown drives to tie the game 28-28 late in the third period.

After a scoreless fourth quarter - Tipton threatened but Ethan Mann intercepted a Gerald White pass on the Trojan 1 to end the scoring chance - the teams went to overtime.

Antonio Leyja scored for Tipton but a two-point conversion try was unsuccessful, making it 34-28.

Konner Harris scored from the 3 on third down to tie the game, but again the extra point try was no good.

In the second overtime Cooper Free scored from the 10 for a 40-34 Sharon-Mutual lead. An extra point run, though, was stopped just short of the goal line.

Tipton scored on a third down run by Bryant Flores, then the Tigers got the win when White hit a wide open Tanner Knight for the 2-point conversion.

Sharon-Mutual jumped out to a 6-0 lead after John Custar blocked a punt in the first quarter. Free scored on a 7-yard run.

Tipton tied it on a 37-yard pass from White to Knight, but the Trojans answered with an 11-play, 73-yard drive to go up 12-6 when Free hit Ben Cooper for a 9-yard touchdown with 7:50 left in the half.

The rest of the half belonged to Tipton as Josh Danna broke a 42-yard touchdown run and Knight hit Flores on a pair of touchdown passes, the last one covering 69 yards with just 13 seconds left in the half.

Tipton had the ball to start the third period, but White's pass was intercepted by Justin Custar.

The Trojans then drove 67 yards to score with Free going in from the nine. Free hit Cooper for the conversion to make it 28-20.

Tipton moved deep into Sharon-Mutual territory on its next possession but lost a fumble on the 16.

Sharon-Mutual then drove 84 yards in 12 plays to the game with Free breaking a 33-yarded for the score. Harris has some key runs in the drive. Harris then hit Cooper for the conversion to make it 28-28.
