Baseball festival opens Friday

Woodward High School will host a 2-day baseball festival beginning Friday at Fuller Park.

Joining the Boomers will be Weatherford, Clinton, Alva, Elk City, Piedmont, Pampa, Texas and Liberal, Kan.

Friday’s schedule has Woodward vs. Clinton at noon followed by Clinton vs. Alva at 2 p.m., Weatherford vs. Liberal at 5 p.m. and the Boomers against Weatherford at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, The Boomers face Piedmont at 10 a.m. with Piedmont taking on Pampa at 12:30 p.m. Pampa faces Elk City at 3 p.m., Elk City plays Alva at 5:30 p.m. and the Boomers take on Alva in the 8 p.m. finale.

Woodward comes into the festival at 6-2 after beating Shattuck on Monday. The Boomers finished second in the Perry Tournament, losing to Wichita Word of Life in the Finals.

Weatherford is the highest ranked team in the festival at No. 3 in Class 4A. The Eagles are 5-3 with wins over a pair of No. 1-ranked teams already (Class A Binger-Oney and Class 4A Berryhill).

Clinton is 5-4 and on a 3-game winning streak while Elk City sports a 4-5 record that includes a win over Class B power Leedey. Piedmont is 7-4 and had a 7-game winning streak snapped by McGuinness this week.

Pampa is 6-9-1 after losing to Dalhart on Tuesday. Liberal opened its season on Tuesday and lost a pair of one-run games to Hugoton, Kan.
