Boomers advance to championship game

Woodward, Okla. — KINGFISHER – Woodward won a pair of games on Friday in Kingfisher and advanced to the championship game of the Piedmont-Kingfisher Baseball Tournament.

The Boomers, 12-10 and winners of 6 in a row, will face Marlow in the championship game at 8 p.m. in Piedmont. Marlow is ranked third in Class 3A. The Outlaws beat Mount Saint Mary, Noble and Christian Heritage to reach the finals.

On Friday, the Boomers hammered Putnam West 10-2 and beat Hennessey 4-2. Woodward defeated Kingfisher 7-0 on Thursday night.

Woodward 7, Kingfisher 0

Francisco Alvarez tossed a 2-hitter and struck out 16 over 7 innings.

The Boomers scored a run in the third, one in the fifth and broke the game open with a 6-run 6th inning.

Alvarez drove in a pair of runs and Garrett Owen, Gage Owen, Kyler Ferguson and Troy Reddoch added hits. Lane Reazin scored a pair of runs.

Woodward's big 6th inning was fueled by four walks plus an error. Reddoch and Garrett Owen had hits in the inning.

Woodward 10, Putnam West 2

The Boomers trailed 2-1 through four innings before exploding for 8 runs in the fifth to break the game open.

Denver Howard drew a walk to start the eighth and Reazin single. Garrett Owen and Gage Owen also had hits, Garrett Hines reached on a fielders' choice and Alvarez walked. Ferguson singled home 2 more runs and Reddoch reached on an error. With one out, Reazin singled in a run to complete the scoring.

In the sixth the Boomers ended the game as Alvarez doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Reddoch.

Garrett Owen scored the Boomer run in the first inning.

Jake Hughes gave up 6 hits over 6 innings to get the win, striking out 10 and walking just one.

Woodward 4, Hennessey 2

The Boomers got a third straight complete game as Hines gave up 6 hits over 7 innings to defeat the Eagles.

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Reazin singled and Garrett Owen singled. Reazin was erased on a fielders' choice, but the Boomers till had 2 baserunners. With two out, Alvarez drew a walk to load the bases and Ferguson followed with a 2-run double for the winning runs.

The Boomers scored in the first inning on a single by Garrett Owen and double by Alvarez. In the second, Reddoch doubled and scored on Reazin's single.

Hennessey scored both of its runs in the third inning.

The Eagles loaded the bases in the 7th before a ground ball ended the game.
