Sharon-Mutual routs Crusaders

Woodward, Okla. — MUTUAL - Sharon-Mutual wasted little time in dispatching the Corn Bible Academy Crusaders 48-0 at Jack Braud Field Friday night.

Sharon-Mutual moves into the Class C quarterfinals next week and will travel to play either Bluejacket or Thackerville.

Against Corn Bible, the Trojans scored on all but one possession to end the game early in the third period.

Cooper Free got the scoring started with a 54-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the game. John Custar ran in the conversion.

Arlan Penrice intercepted Scott Dick to stop a mild CBA threat, then the Trojans went 85 yards in 6 plays to lead 16-0. Konnor Harris’ 63-yard run set up the 8-yard touchdown run by Logan Hunter. Penrice added the conversion.

On the Trojans third possession, Free broke free on a 46-yard touchdown run to make it 22-0.

Corn Bible put together its best scoring chance of the game before being turned away at the Trojan 17 early in the second period.

Sharon-Mutual threatened but didn’t score on its next possession, giving it up downs at the CBA 18.

But that was the only Trojan drive that failed to reach the end zone.

On their next possession, Dustin Baker broke a 42-yard run to set up a 7-yard touchdown by Harris. Free’s conversion made it 30-0.

Sharon-Mutual added two more scores in the final 4 minutes of the half. Free had a 15-yard run and tossed a 56-yard pass to Cody Campbell for a 42-0 halftime lead.

On their first possession of the second half, the Trojans ended the game on a 44-yard pass from Free to Campbell.

Sharon-Mutual finished the game with 527 yards of total offense to just 113 for the Crusaders.

Sharon-Mutual will take a 10-1 record and 9-game winning streak into the quarterfinals.

In some other Class C games, top-ranked Tipton defeated Buffalo 50-0, Cherokee beat Maud 48-0 and Forgan blasted Temple 64-0.

In Class B, Laverne scored 38 points in the first quarter and raced past Central Marlow 58-12. Davenport, Fox, Pond Creek-Hunter and Wetumka were among the other winners.

Thomas and Texhoma were among the teams advancing in Class A.
