Monster Truck event Saturday

Woodward, Okla. — This weekend's Extreme Monster Truck Summer Nationals is all about the 3 B's.

"It'll be the biggest, best and baddest show of all time," said Jim Morris, event coordinator for the Extreme Monster Truck Summer Nationals.

The monster truck show will be held Saturday, June 30 at Crystal Beach Stadium.  Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.  Those who purchase a VIP ticket will be able to attend the pre-show pit party from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Morris said during the pre-show pit party, VIP ticket holders will be able to meet all of the drivers, get pictures and autographs, look at the trucks up close and kids will get a collectors edition racing flag. The VIP ticket also comes with a preferred seat for the show.

"This has become the biggest monster truck show in all of Western Oklahoma," he said. "It features some of the baddest monster trucks on the planet."

The line-up for the monster truck show includes Bounty Hunter, who won the Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas.  Bounty Hunter is driven by Ben "Bobo" Winslow of Statesville, NC. Also competing will be Iron Outlaw driven by Matt Brokaw of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Crashmaster, driven by Jeremy Perry of Odessa, Texas.

In addition, the  defending champion of Woodward for 2 years in a row, Brute Force, will be driven by Jerry Perry of Grand Rapids, Mich.

The event competitions include a wheelie contest, a donut contest and monster truck freestyle.  For the freestyle event, trucks and drivers are turned loose to do whatever they can to win the crowd over, Morris said.

"Sometimes it means destroying their own truck," he said.

The winners of the monster truck events are decided by the audience.

In addition to the competing monster trucks, the world's largest monster truck, Sergeant Smash, will be at the show.  There will also be a 35-foot "U.S. secret intelligence transformer" Galactron with weapons including dynamite, guns and lasers Morris said.

"He (Galactron) will be there to protect the boys and girls from any evil that will be near the city of Woodward," he said.

Another notable event of the night will be the first ever attempt in Oklahoma of a backflip on a snowmobile.  Caleb Moore, of Akron, Ohio, and a gold medalist of the Winter X Games, will be performing the trick.

"It is a very dangerous trick," Morris said. "Nothing like that has ever been done in Oklahoma. I think it will be cool to witness history here."

There will also be a chance to pay for a ride in a real monster truck before the show, during intermission and after the show, he said.

Also after the show, the drivers will be available again for anyone who might want to get their autographs.
