Boomers go 2-2 in home baseball festival

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward closed its festival with a 2-2 record after routing Northwest Classen 13-5  Saturday evening.

Earlier Saturday the Boomers lost 11-3 to Weatherford.

The split leaves the Boomers with a 6-9 record going into the I-40 Classic this week in Clinton.

Garrett Owen homered, drove in 4 runs and scored 3 to spark the Boomers against the Knights. Troy Reddoch and Jake Hughes also drove in a pair of runs.

Garrett Owen had 4 hits and Gage Owen, Reddoch and Lane Reazin had 2 each.

The Boomers scored 4 runs in the first inning and never looked back, adding 5 more in the third and 2 in each of the fifth and sixth frames.

Reddoch was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 hits and striking out 7 over 6 innings.

Earlier the Boomers dropped an 11-3 game to Weatherford.

The Eagles, ranked in the top 5 in Class 4A, had only 6 hits but took advantage of 5 Boomer errors.

A 6-run fifth inning broke the game open and the Eagles added 4 more runs in the seventh inning. The Eagles scored all 6 runs with 2 outs in the fifth with the help of 2 errors. In the seventh, the Eagles also scored all 4 runs with 2 outs.

Kyler Ferguson was the losing pitcher with Reddoch coming on to get the final out in the 7th.

The game was 1-0 until the Eagles fifth inning outburst.

The Boomers got 1 run in the sixth and 2 in the seventh.

Garrett Owen drove in 2 runs and Reazin one. Reazin had 2 of the Boomers 6 hits.

On Friday, The Boomers dropped a 9-1 decision to Piedmont then bounced back to beat Pampa, Texas 11-4 in the second game. In between, Piedmont defeated Pampa, 9-4.

Piedmont scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning and pulled away from the Boomers.

Woodward got 3 of its 4 hits in the first inning and Gage Owen scored the only run on an error.

Against Pampa, it was the Boomers getting the early jump with 6 runs in the first inning.

Four walks and a hit-batsman mixed around infield singles from Gage Owen, Garrett Hines and Rayce McEwan accounted for the scoring.

Gage Owen had another hit later in the game and Hughes, Reazin and Ferguson all had hits as well. Gage Owen and Hughes each drove in 2 runs.

Hines was the winning pitcher.
