MIDWEST CITY - Woodward routed Ardmore 13-5 Friday morning to win its pool in the South Plains Classic.
Woodward finished pool play at 3-1 and the other teams in its pool all have at least 2 losses.
The Travelers will move into the single elimination bracket round with a second-round matchup Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at Rose State College against the Oklahoma City Ducks or Southwest Shockers. A win would put them into the quarterfinals at 7:45 p.m., Saturday, also at Rose State.
Against Ardmore, the Travelers scored in 6 of the 7 innings to win going away.
Woodward led 11-0 before Ardmore scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to avoid the run-rule.
Leno Ramirez powered the attack with 5 hits, including a pair of two-run homers, 5 RBI and 5 runs scored.
Francisco Alvarez scored 4 times.
Garrett Collins had three hits and 3 runs-batted-in and Cullen Mack and Zach Fowler each had a pair of hits. Matt Martin drove in 2 runs.
The Travelers had 17 hits in the game.
Chase Wilson pitched 3 scoreless innings for the victory with Dustin Cook and Dakota Woods each working 2 innings.
On Thursday night, the Travelers edged the Bethany/OKC Bulls 6-5, scoring 2 in the sixth inning for the victory.
Holden Lyons was the winning pitcher and Ramirez got a save.
Woodward trailed 5-4 after 5 innings.
In the top of the sixth, Fowler led off with a single and stole second and third. One out later, he scored on Dalton Reed's single to tie the game. Alvarez singled, then Ramirez drove in Reed with what proved to be the winning run.
Mack put the Travelers on the board with a home run in the second inning.
In the third, Alvarez singled and Ramirez hit a 2-run homer. Woodward scored in the fourth on a double by Fowler and 2-out single by Alvarez.
Woodward's Minors are 2-1 through 2 days of the Bottlerocket Shootout at Fuller Park.
The Minors defeated Dodge City 9-5 and Perryton 13-3 on Thursday, then lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to Christian Heritage on Friday.
Woodward's split squad team defeated Dodge City 9-1 and lost to Clinton 13-7.
The tournament continues Saturday with 5 games and concludes on Sunday with the bracket round.
