The Boomers will face 2 of the top 5 teams in Class 4A this weekend in the Woodward Baseball Festival at Fuller Park
Woodward, 4-7, will play 4th-ranked Piedmont today at 10 a.m. and No. 3 Weatherford on Saturday at noon. The Boomers will also play Pampa, Texas today at 2 p.m. and Northwest Classen on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Other teams in the festival include Shattuck and Elk City.
Six games are scheduled for today with 3 more on Saturday.
Woodward is coming off a 10-2 loss to Class B powerhouse Leedey earlier in the week and the Boomers were 2-2 in the Perry Tournament over spring break.
Piedmont’s biggest wins so far are over Tuttle, Jones and Clinton. The Wildcats lost to Anadarko.
Weatherford is 9-2 so far, losing to Chickasha and Berryhill, both highly rated teams as well.
The Eagles posted wins over Elgin and Elk City in their last 2 outings.
Pampa, Texas is a solid program from the Panhandle and is 2-0 against Oklahoma teams this year, having swept a doubleheader from Guymon.
Shattuck comes into the festival with a 7-4 record and has 4 wins in its last 5 games.
Elk City has also struggled in the early going.
10 a.m. - Woodward vs. Piedmont; Noon - Piedmont vs. Pampa; 2 p.m. - Woodward vs. Pampa; 4 p.m. - Northwest Classen vs. Shattuck; 6 p.m. - Northwest Classen vs. Elk City; 8 p.m. - Shattuck vs. Elk City.
Noon - Woodward vs. Weatherford; 2 p.m. - Weatherford vs. Northwest Classen; 4 p.m. - Woodward vs. Northwest Classen.
WHS soccer to Weatherford
The Woodward soccer teams will take part in the Eagle Classic today at Saturday.
Woodward’s girls face Lawton Eisenhower at 5:30 p.m. at Rader Park and the boys follow at 7:30 p.m. also against Lawton Ike.
Woodward’s boys are 3-0 and ranked 5th in Class 4A. Lawton Eisenhower is off to a 2-1 start.
If the Boomers win tonight, they will likely face district rival Clinton in the semifinals at noon on Saturday,
Woodward’s girls will face a 1-3 Lawton Ike squad. The Boomers are 1-2 and beat Enid in their last outing.
The Boomers will face Clinton or Lawton in the second round.
