Area teams advance in playoffs

Woodward, Okla. — Round one of the football playoffs went about as expected for area teams.

Laverne advanced in Class B as did Shattuck, Sharon-Mutual and Balko in Class C and Okeene in Class A.

Class B

Laverne 68, Allen 20

The Tigers led 48-7 at halftime and stayed in control the entire time, rolling up 432 yards in total offense.

Tanner Allen tossed 3 touchdown passes and Tucker Rolf one as the Tigers threw for 178 yards. On the ground, Laverne had 254 yards with 7 different players carrying the ball and 4 of them scoring touchdowns.

A 28-point first period decided things early.

A 47-yard pass from Allen to Trevor Harris started the scoring, then Rolf had a 23-yard run, Allen and Harris hooked up for 50 yards, and Rolf hit Kaleb Maphet for a 4-yard touchdown. In the second period, Dalton Birch went 47 yards to score, then Allen returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown and Hunter Person caught an 18-yard pass from Allen to make it 48-0.

Dalton James kept the Allen team alive with a touchdown just 12 seconds before halftime.

The game eventually made it to the fourth period before Tracer Raven recovered a fumble in the end zone to get the mercy rule with 7 minutes remaining.

Tanner Allen and Person also had touchdowns in the secede half.

Laverne, 11-0, hosts Keota next week.

Class C

Sharon-Mutual 56, Mountain View-Gotebo 24

The Trojans had some problems with Mountain View for a while, but eventually built a 30-18 halftime lead and pulled away in the second half.

Jordan White's 28-yard pass reception from Ethan Spurlock gave Mountain View an 18-16 lead in the second quarter.

Sharon-Mutual answered with 2 touchdowns before the half ended on runs of 6 and 24 yards by Cooper Freed.

The second half was all Sharon-Mutual as John Custar returned a kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown, Justin Custar tackled White in the end zone for a safety, Free had a 49-yard run and Konner Harris a 7-yard run.

Justin Custar and Ben Cooper had first two Sharon-Mutual touchdowns.

Sharon-Mutual finished with 394 total yards, 322 coming on the ground.

Mountain View had 284 total yards.

Sharon-Mutual, 10-1, travels to Thackerville on Friday.

Shattuck 48, Grandfield 0

The Indians ended this one by halftime, scoring 20 points in the first period and 28 in the second.

Jake Bay opened the scoring with a 30-yard run, then Beau Srader went 45 yards for a touchdown.

Srader threw touchdown passes of 59 yards to Robbie Burris and 18 yards to Scott Budig.

Budig returned an interception 30 yards for a score and Trevor Carpenter had the last two touchdowns on runs of 25 and 14 yards.

Shattuck's defense allowed just 10 yards on 26 plays. Offensively, the Indians had 305 yards.

Now 9-1, Shattuck will host Arkoma on Friday.

Class A

Okeene 57, Cordell 22

Okeene exploded for 29 unanswered points to start the game and rolled past Cordell.

Scott Dobrinksi ran for 2 touchdowns and fired 3 touchdown passes for the Whippets. Seven different players scored touchdowns as Okeene improved to 10-1.

Okeene had 468 yards in total offense.

The Whippets host Cashion on Friday.

Class 2A

Alva saw its season end at the hands of a 28-point fourth quarter by Christian Heritage.

The Goldbugs led 21-14 at one point but ended  up losing 42-21 in the Class 2A playoffs.

Chisholm was eliminated by defending state champion Oklahoma Christian.
