Laverne wins district opener over Canton

Woodward, Okla. — Laverne stretched its winning streak to 16 games with a comfortable 38-14 win over Canton at Kilmer Field Friday.

The Tigers built a 38-0 lead before Canton scored a pair of late touchdowns.

Reserves played over half the game for Laverne after the Tigers took a 32-0 lead.

Trevor Harris scored 3 touchdowns and Tucker Rolf and Trenton McConnell one each for the top-ranked Tigers, the defending Class B state champions.

Canton dropped to 1-1 on the season.

It was the District B-1 opener for both schools.

Harris scored from 54 yards out on Laverne's first possession, then Rolf had an 8-yard run and Harris scored on a  63-yard pass play. Harris' 14-yard touchdown made it 32-0 with 9:54 left in the half.

Rolf had a touchdown run called back later in the second period.

McConnell scored on a 10-yard pass from Colten Person for the 38-0 lead.

Both Canton scores came on passes, a 4-yarder from M.J. Whiteeagle to Lance Sessions and a 33-yarder from Whiteeagle to Wade Webb with 29 seconds left in the game.

Harris had 109 yards on just 6 carries and Rolf finished with 75 hards on 9 attempts. Rolf was 3 of 7 passing for 115 yards.

Whiteeagle attempted 47 passes, completing 28 for 212 yards.

Shattuck 46, Waynoka 0

Trevor Carpenter scored 3 touchdowns as Shattuck evened its season record at 1-1.

The Indians took a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and ended the game in the fourth period by the mercy rule.

Trenton Calaway opened the scoring by recovering a fumble in the end zone.

Carpenter had scoring runs of 7, 2 and 2 yards. Skyler Pshigoda and Trenton Sweeney had the other Indian scores.

The Indians rushed for 340 yards in the game while holding Waynoka to just 98 total yards.

Thomas 14, Okeene 0

Trent Dunaway fired touchdown passes to Blake Wohl and Schell Apple as the Terriers posted their second win of the year.

The first touchdown, a 10-yarder to Wohl, broke a scoreless tie, then later in the period the second score made it 14-0.

Okeene moved the ball, but had 5 turnovers, including 2 in the Thomas red zone.

Thomas had 270 yards rushing in the game and another 119 passing.
