Travelers 3-1 in Lawton

Woodward, Okla. — LAWTON – The Traveler Majors finished pool play in the Lawton Festival with a 3-1 record and are scheduled to start bracket play on Saturday.

After dropping a 2-1 game late Thursday to the Southwest Shockers Majors, the Travelers defeated the Oklahoma City Sting 12-4 and Ardmore 9-6 on Friday.

The Travelers were limited to just two hits in the loss to the Shockers with one an RBI double by Easton Palmer that scored Beau Srader in the sixth inning.

The Shockers scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, then held on for the win.

Brett Lorah pitched five innings and took the loss. Cody Daylor worked the sixth frame.

Against the OKC Sting, the Travelers used a seven-run fifth inning to break open a close game.

Woodward led 5-1 entering the fifth and Jason Nichols belted a 3-run homer to get things going. Chandler Salinas added an RBI double in the inning as the Travelers sent 11 batters to the plate.

In the fourth, the Travelers scored four times on three hits, a double by Nichols and singles by Dalton Gore and Garrett Gaunt.

Grant Schamburg worked four innings, allowing just one run and two hits. Robbie Burris worked the final inning.

The Ardmore game was a back-and-forth battle.

Ardmore took leads of 2-0 and 6-5 but couldn't hold them against the Traveler offense.

Salinas gave the Travelers a 4-2 lead with a grand slam homer in the third inning, scoring Gaunt, Palmer and Schamburg - who had all walked - ahead of him.

The Travelers stretched the lead to 5-2, but Ardmore came up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 6-5.

In the fifth, Woodward scored three times to take the lead for good.

Nichols and Salinas singled and Garrett Collins walked. Gore brought in one run, Gaunt drew a bases loaded walk and Palmer was hit by a pitch to force in the third run.

Woodward added another run in the sixth on an error, single by Collins and sacrifice fly by Gore.

Junior Obeso got the win with Daylor throwing the final two innings for a save. Daylor struck out four.

The Traveler Minors were eliminated from the Weatherford Tournament on Friday, losing a tough 4-3 decision to the Oklahoma City Bulls.
