Busy week in store for local teams

Woodward, Okla. — Most of the Woodward High School spring sports teams will be in action this week.

Here is a rundown:


The Boomers will host Class B powerhouse Leedey on Monday for a 5 p.m. game, then welcomes several teams in Friday and Saturday for a festival. Joining the Boomers will be Piedmont, Northwest Classen, Pampa, Texas, Shattuck, Elk City and Weatherford.

Woodward, which went 2-2 in the Perry Tournament over spring break, beating Perry and Newkirk and losing to Glencoe and Alva, will face Piedmont and Pampa on Friday and Weatherford and Northwest Classen on Saturday,


The Boomers will host Mooreland and Elk City for a three-way series of games Monday. Woodward will play Mooreland at 4 p.m., then Mooreland faces Elk City and Woodward closes out the action against Elk City.

On Thursday and Saturday, the Boomers will take part in the Elk City Tournament.


Woodward makes its annual appearance at the Eagle Classic in Weatherford.

The unbeaten boys team plays Lawton Eisenhower at 7:30 p.m. at Rader Park. The girls play Lawton Eisenhower at 5:30 p.m. at Rader Park.

Woodward’s boys are in a 3-way tie with Glenpool and Victory Christian for the No. 5 ranking in Class 4A.


The Boomer track squad opens its season at the annual Fairview Invitational on Tuesday, the traditional opener for many Northwest Oklahoma teams. Woodward goes to Watonga on Friday.


Woodward’s girls are in the Weatherford Invitational on Wednesday. The boys are at Enid on Thursday and Weatherford on Friday.
