Boomers hosting Elk City

Woodward, Okla. — An early season Western Conference basketball showdown is set in Boomer Fieldhouse Tuesday.

The Boomers, ranked 15th in Class 4A, face Elk City in a battle of undefeated teams.

On the girls side, the Boomers will go for their first win against the Elks.

Game time is 6:30 p.m. with the girls playing first.

The boys game features what looks like 2 of the top 3 teams in the conference.

Woodward is off to a 2-0 start with both games at home. Elk City is 3-0 and has a road win at Enid.

The Elks did have a road game Monday night at Classen in Oklahoma City.

Woodward’s girls are 0-2 on the year with losses to undefeated Alva and once beaten Enid.

Elk City was 2-1 going into Monday’s game at highly regarded Classen with an overtime loss to Enid sandwiched between easy wins over Altus and Clinton.

This is the Boomers’ last game before the holiday break and their final home game until the last week in January.

Note: Woodward’s game at Weatherford that was postponed on Dec. 6 due to weather, has been rescheduled for Jan. 14.

The area schedule includes several games.

Matchups include Arnett at Leedey, Alva at OBA, Balko at Forgan, Buffalo at Canton, Watonga at Fairview, Higgins, Texas at Freedom, Cherokee at Mooreland, Calumet at Seiling, Shattuck at Sharon-Mutual, Vici at Thomas and Timberlake at Waynoka.

One of the more interesting boys games will be in Leedey where the Bison host top-ranked Arnett.

Leedey upset Class A power Cheyenne in the semifinals of the 5-County Tournament last week while Arnett is off to a 6-1 start and getting ready for the upcoming Tournament of Champions in Tulsa.

The girls game features 2 traditional powers as both Leedey and Arnett have been in the tournament several times over the years.

The Sharon-Mutual girls take on Shattuck in what could be another high-powered matchup. Sharon-Mutual finished third in the Mooreland Holiday Classic over the weekend while Shattuck dropped a thrilling 50-47 game to Seiling in the finals of the Laverne Tournament.

The Thomas-Vici girls game should be a competitive one as well.
