Big playoff night in area football

Shattuck goes for win No. 94 in a row tonight as it hosts Deer Creek-Lamont in the Class C quarterfinals.

But it’s just one of several key playoff games across the area.

Timberlake, ranked second behind Shattuck, hosts Tipton while once-beaten Seiling visits Waynoka and Forgan travels to Covington-Douglas.

In Class B, the Laverne Tigers face another long road trip, this time to Davenport in central Oklahoma. Canton is also on the road, making the trip to Porter.

In Class A, Watonga travels to face undefeated Ringling.

Shattuck defeated DCLA in the state quarterfinals last year.

Both teams are coming off solid victories, Shattuck over Thackerville and DCLA over Midway.

The Indians will be without quarterback Aaron McCandless, who is out with a leg injury from last week.

Conner Babcock moves into the quarterback slot and the Indians will likely feature hard-running senior Brent Starbuck.

DCLA’s lone losses were to district foes Timberlake and Seiling.

With a win, Shattuck would earn an eighth straight trip to the Class C semifinals. The Indians lost to Pond Creek-Hunter in the 2002 semifinals, but have since won six consecutive state championships.

Seiling is trying to reach the semifinals in its second season of 8-man football after dropping from Class A.

The Wildcats, led by senior quarterback Zach McDonald, face a difficult test in the Waynoka Railroaders, who ran for over 500 yards in an upset at Temple last week.

Forgan routed Victory Life in impressive fashion last week, but the Bulldogs will see a rugged Covington-Douglas team. Both are athletic and will mix it up.

Laverne survived a wild 50-48 game last week and will try to win its fourth consecutive game - all on the road.

This is a rematch of a quarterfinal game last year, won 70-28 by the Tigers.

Game time at all sites is 7:30 p.m.
