Bitter Sweet

Woodward News

Woodward, Okla. — By Rich Macke

A year and a half ago I had the fantastic opportunity to come to Woodward and take the reigns as publisher of the Woodward News.

But out of this opportunity came so much more than just a great job. A community, that I literally knew nothing about only months prior to that became a huge part of my life. It’s not every day that you get to move to a community where the people there just open the doors and let you in as though you’ve been there your entire life.

But unfortunately all GREAT things do come to an end and so has my time here in Woodward. Last week I was contacted by my boss, whom I really enjoy working for, to take on a different publisher position within the company. So beginning Monday, January 30th I will be starting my new post as publisher of the Port Arthur News in Port Arthur, Texas.

Although it has only been a short time that I have been able to enjoy Northwest Oklahoma, I have had the sheer pleasure of being able to work alongside a great group of people here at the Woodward News. A team of individuals that not only love their job but work tirelessly every day to bring our readers and advertisers the best publication they can for their community. This team of newspaper professionals has helped to grow revenues over the past year and a half to levels that are currently unheard of in this industry. They all do a fantastic job and I will miss each of them tremendously.

Even with the excitement of a new opportunity just over the horizon, there is definitely a bitter sweet feeling running through me. It’s not every day that someone can say that when they moved to town, the entire community just opened their arms and let them come in and be a part of it.

In some towns, outsiders remain outsiders, but not here in Woodward. And this was probably the most amazing part of moving here as it allowed me to make some fantastic friendships that will continue to be a part of my life even after I leave. And that, my friend, is “PRICELESS”!

Moving forward, I fully expect that the Woodward News will continue to strive to bring its readers the best publication they can on a daily basis. There will ultimately be a new individual placed in this position that will continue to push forward upon the growth that we have made. With a thriving economy and great community leaders focused on growth, the Woodward News has a sound future amongst this community.

As I said earlier, this is a bitter sweet goodbye as I am excited about the future, but saddened to leave a great town with such fantastic people. May our paths meet again, as I would love to see you again down the road!
