Weight A Minute: Liar!!

By Sheila Gay

The voice in your head that says that you can't do this, IS A LIAR!

Even though I know this to be true, I still tend to compare my abilities to other athletes (I still don't consider myself an athlete--hehe). It is especially hard when you workout or run with someone who hasn't been working out and they still whip your rear! I mean come on! What is that all about?

When I first started my exercise routine, I struggled with that concept. I work out at least 4 to 5 times a week and someone who hasn't seen a gym or ran in FOREVER comes in and smears all of my hard work on the floor!  It can become so disheartening, sometimes even soul crushing.

As time has moved on, I have come to realize that my first thoughts of knocking these people out (by the way I would never actually do that), is undeserved. They are naturally built with abilities that I do not have or perhaps they have been more physical throughout their youth and I have learned (well mostly) that this is okay. We all have talents that belong to us and each of us are individually able to accomplish any obstacle we want to if we just get off the couch and move.

That being said, it is also possible, I'm learning from a great "coach" that you can become better, stronger, and yes even faster! Although I may or may not run a 10 minute mile or even a 9 minute mile, I am becoming me and the voice in my head is a LIAR!!!
