ON MAIN STREET: Time for the holidays

Woodward, Okla. — The cool nights tell us fall is here and we don’t take the time for enjoying November and the holiday of Thanksgiving. Before you get caught up with Christmas, don’t forget to spend time with family and friends and enjoy Thanksgiving. One of my fondest memories as a child was Thanksgiving when all my family got together to eat, share what was going on in their lives, and then play a little football. As my family has grown to great nieces and nephews they still want Aunt Janet to have Thanksgiving. Main Street wants you to take time with your family and friends and spend November by enjoying Girls Night Out on the 10th and then Black Friday on the 25th. As you are shopping with your favorite shoppers take a moment and reflect on a childhood memory that makes you thankful. I believe “sharing time is happy time”

Main Street Merchants have decided to extend their store hours every Thursday night till 7 p.m. These extended hours are for you the consumers so you have time to shop Woodward Main Street. We have decided as a group to give the consumers a chance to take advantage of the hours until May 2012. We plan on Thursday nights being a time where people will want to come to Main Street to dine and shop and who knows we may have a little entertainment.

Ok I can’t leave out Christmas in this article can I? We all anticipate Christmas, Baby Jesus, Christmas Parades, Santa, Lights, Snow and Presents. The kid in all of us looks forward to this time of year.  Main Street is no different. Main Street has taken on lighting Centennial Park with lots of colored lights and Christmas displays. We will have carolers every Thursday night in December and just maybe some good ol’ hot chocolate. Just think about it “Thursday nights” let’s go eat, shop, listen to the Carolers sing Christmas songs in Downtown Woodward and then go see the lights at Crystal Christmas, what a great evening. You could even have one Thursday as Family night, then the next Thursday night as Girls night, then how about couples night on Thursday and then why not have a “you” night? I think you get the idea.

The Christmas Parade will be December 10th at 11 a.m. and that Saturday will also be Tax Free Saturday on Main Street. Watch for later details on Tax Free Saturday on Main and what else we might have going on Dec. 10.

A moment of Thanksgiving! I have now been your Main Street Director for a year and I am very thankful for this opportunity to serve and help our town and Main Street members. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

See you on Main, Janet
