Alvin was born July 25, 1927 in Pratt, Kansas to James Harry and Ethel (Davis) Highfill. Alvin was about twelve years of age when the family moved to their farm southwest of Mooreland, Oklahoma. He graduated from Mooreland High School in 1947. Alvin was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 during the Korean Conflict and served most of his tour of duty in Germany. He had great love for his farm and cattle. He had great pleasure taking grandchildren to the farm. He practiced soil conservation and was recognized for improvements made on the land. Alvin was committed to his carpet business until he retired in 1990. Since retiring, he enjoyed traveling, continued ranching, being active in his church, Gideon’s International, and especially his grandchildren. Coffee time with his friends was a daily highlight, although his hearing was very limited, his close friend, Bill Thomas made Alvin feel included.
Alvin became a Christian at age thirteen. He loved the Lord and served in the First Baptist Church, Woodward. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent, taught junior high boys, served on the Properties Committee, deacon, and other ways. He had a heart of giving and sharing and loved supporting mission programs.
