Dale Kays

Woodward, Okla. — Dale Kays,78 Woodward businessman and longtime Woodward resident died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, October 18, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Shane Rackley officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.


Dale Lee Kays was born in Moorewood, Oklahoma on September 16, 1935 to Tivis William and Georgia Etta (Steele) Kays.  While Dale was very young he and his family lived in May and Woodward where Dale started school.  In 1943 Dale and his family moved to Pampa, Texas where Dale started 2nd Grade.  Later that same year the family moved to Leedey.  Dale graduated from Leedey High School and after graduation moved to Camargo.  Six months later he met the love of his life Russellene Dean.  They soon were married and shared over 50 years together.  Dale and Russ were blessed with two sons, Tony Lee and Ricky Lynn.  Dale worked a short time for the Katy Railroad.  In the fall of 1954 Dale and Russ moved to Woodward and Dale went to work at Young Furniture for Harry Bradford.  He worked for Harry until 1974 when he purchased Young Furniture.  Dale operated the store until 1990 when his health forced him to retire.


During his working years Dale belonged to various civic clubs, Lions, Jaycees, Kiwanis and his club The Woodward Ambucs.  He held every office in his local Ambucs club and also served as District Secretary/ Treasurer.  Dale was a life member of Ambucs.


In his so called retirement Dale went to work part-time at Merrimans Furniture Store working for 14 years.  One of the high points in Dales life was that he and Russ had visited all 50 states and several foreign countries.  But the highest point of all was his love of his wife and family.


Dale is survived by his soul mate, Russ of the home; two sons, Tony Kays and wife Sabine of Camargo; Rick Kays and wife Donna of Stillwater; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Marilyn McIntire of Salem, MO; sister-in-law, Betty Waters and husband Jim of Arnett; special care giver, Misty Bergeron, several other family members and many friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Tivis and Georgia.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
