Jeff Knowles

Woodward, Okla. — JEFFERY LEE KNOWLES

      August 1, 1963  -  March 17, 2013

The year was 1963 our young President was John F Kennedy and he had just stood up to the powerful Russian leader and said ‘put-up or back-off’.  The Viet Nam was starting, and in California a group of people called Hippies were wearing peace sign medallions around their necks.

However, on the First day of August, 1963, in Shattuck, OK Jerry Don & Linda Knowles life changed with three words,  -  It’s a Boy.  They took on the hardest job of all  -  Parenthood, with the arrival of their first born, Jeffrey Lee Knowles.

In a few years Jeff moved up to big brother with the arrival of little sister Denise and then a brother Lance.  Jeff took on this role of being protector, leader, keeper of sibling secrets and giving advice and orders, whether asked or not.  Sister Denise was not a hard task and pretty easy to get along with, but little brother Lance – now that was a Test!  Never seemed to phase good easy going Jeff.

Jeff grew up in Arnett, Ok attended his school years in the Arnett system and Graduated with the Class of 1982.  He enjoyed playing in sports and participating in other high school programs.  Now can you imagine being in school where not only was your Dad known as Mr. Knowles, the Principal, but also Mom was Mrs. Knowles the Teacher.  Some peer pressure?  Jeff just took it in stride, received a congratulation pat on the back, or his punishment with the rest and never questioned it.

Jeff attended SWOSU in Weatherford, Ok.  In 1985 he moved to Seattle working for six months.  With the arrival of his son Blake Knowles he moved back to Arnett, Ok, and then Oklahoma City.  After his daughter Breanna Knowles was born, Jeff returned to his hometown of Arnett again, putting down roots where he remained today.

He was a loving and devoted dad to Blake and Breanna Knowles.  The birth of his grandson, Treece Knowles, brought one of his biggest pleasures to him.  He was so excited to see the beginning of the next Knowles generation.

Jeff was a member of the First Baptist Church and was baptized in his 20’s.  He also attended the Methodist Church and the Christian Church.

Jeff worked for Pioneer Telephone for ten plus years.  He was a dedicated service man to the many many customers he took care of.  Whether he had known them all his life or a new acquaintance, the care and service he provided was always professional.  He knew a little bit about everything, or he was a ‘Jack of all trades’.

Jeff was an avid sports lover, anything from hunting, riding motorcycles, basketball, football, (loved his Sooners), baseball, stock car racing, snow skiing.   However, water skiing, boating and spending time at Foss Lake with his friends just hanging was his passion.  This certainly showed in the summer when he sported that beautiful tanned bald head around.  That was just typical Jeff Knowles.  He was also an accomplished water skier!

Jeff just loved life to the fullest, giving nearly everyone around him a nickname!  If he couldn’t think of one for you, you were “Bonzo”.  If you missed his conversations with Siri on the smart phone, you missed some classics.  Jeff “What’s my name?  Siri “your name is Jeff, but you would like me to call you “stud muffins”.  This two-way conversation would go on and on.

He had a method for making everyone around him laugh and have a good time.  When Jeff showed up it was going to be an adventure.  He would help anyone in anyway, a free spirit, and he never met a man that didn’t like him, or that he said a bad word against.

All his friends agree on this:  He had a genuine interest in what his friends were doing when he asked them, and always before he talked about himself

Jeff departed this life on March 17, 2013, at the age of 49 , much too soon for all of us, but his impact on those around him will carry on for many years.

Jeff has a family of loved ones, and abundance of friends, and the respect of this Community.  He was a precious treasure to all of us, and in return he treasured his love and friendship with each and everyone as well.     He was the Pride of Arnett!

Jeff was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jay & Ada Knowles,  maternal grandparents, Ray & Hazel Carmichael, 3 uncles, Troy Carmichael, Jack Carmichael & Tom Hardison, and 1 cousin, Doug Hardison.  Surviving relatives are  parents Jerry Don & Linda Knowles, son Blake Knowles & wife Lacey & most special grandson Treece Knowles of Mooreland, OK.  Daughter Breanna Knowles of Arnett.  Sister Denise Parsons & husband Lonnie and 2 nieces Lonna & Landree of Woodward, Ok.  Brother Lance Knowles & wife Cheyenne and 2 nieces, Kylie & Jaylie of Amarillo, Tx.  5 aunts, 4 uncles, and many wonderful loving friends.

“This is a Good Day and it’s goin’ to get Better”   -   Jeff Knowles

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21, 2013 in the Arnett High School Auditorium with burial following in DeBolt Cemetery.  Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Arnett, Oklahoma.  Condolences may be made to the family and Memorial Tribute viewed at shawfuneralhome.net
