Kay Burk

Woodward, Okla. —

Kay Burk, 78 year old Mooreland resident died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in the Mooreland First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Larry Masoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery with Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Billings Chapel in Mooreland and from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. the day of the service.

Kay Farrell (Halbrooks) Burk was born on July 3, 1935 in Nida, Oklahoma, Johnson County to Chet and Bonnie Farrel (Hughs) Halbrooks. She grew up and attended schools in Ardmore. She was united in marriage to Bob Burk on January 27, 1956. Bob’s job with Oklahoma Natural Gas Company moved them to Okemah and Weleetka, Oklahoma in Okfuskee County in 1962. Kay was employed as a Bank Teller with the State Bank of Weleetka. They moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma in 1971. Kay was employed by the Mooreland School System and later went to work for the First State Bank of Mooreland as a Bank Teller and retired in 1997.

Kay and Bob were blessed with two children, Robert Michael and Lynda Lee.

Kay was a member of the Mooreland First United Church, the Mooreland Senior Citizen Center, and the Red Hat Club. Kay was very involved with her children’s activities when they were young. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Bob of the home; two children, Robert Michael Burk and wife Kim of Mooreland; Lynda Lee Frech and husband Rick of Woodward; niece Johanna Wolff and husband Paul of Vancouver, Washington; six grandchildren, Dannell Swearingime and husband Stoney, Conner and Miles Kahoe, Ricky, Matthew, Taylor Frech: other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Wanda Miller and husband Jay.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodward Regional Hospital Health and Hospice with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Dudley Blaylock was born January 29, 1945 in Higgins, Texas to Edith May and Dudley Jasper Blaylock.  He passed away July 16, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 17 days.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

    Susie Louise McNeill of Vici went to be with her Lord on July 16, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Susie was born March 17, 1940 to Johnnie Lee (Jackson) and Thurman Wall in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
