Barbara O. Frost, 93 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Grace Living Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Jeremy Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Barbara O. (Grice) Frost was born on December 13, 1919 in Brawley, California to Claude and Jessie May (Pyle) Grice. The family moved to the farm near Bloomfield, Oklahoma in 1921. She started school in Camargo and attended school there until 1936 when her family moved back to Brawley, California. Barbara graduated from Brawley High School in 1937. She attended Woodward Jr. College for two years and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern State Teachers College. Barbara was united in marriage to Sam Gafford in 1945 and they were blessed with one daughter, Jean Anne.
Barbara taught school in California for two years and then she taught at Camargo, Selman, and Woodward for 30 years. Barbara was united in marriage to Russell Frost on November 15, 1957. They made their home in the Woodward area. She retired from teaching in 1984.
Barbara was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the National Education Association, the Oklahoma Education Association, the Retired Teachers, and the Kappa Iota Teachers sorority.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Anne Gafford of Woodward; two sisters, Bula Hrstka of Carson City, Nevada, Eula Cook of Carson City, Nevada; nephews and nieces, Bill Grice and wife Sue of Mooreland, Sue Anderson and husband Charles of Edmond, Ann Smith and husband Ken of Woodward, Sam Cook and wife Sue of Carson City, Nevada, Tom Cook of Carson City, Nevada, Tim Nemlowill of California, Terry Nemlowill and wife Cindy of Oregon, Ronnie Cardiff and wife Arlene of California, Karen Patterson and husband Frank of Woodward, Larry Phillips of Norman; two special great-nieces, Kori Grice of Edwards, Colorado, Tiffany Yoder and husband Alan of Aurora, Colorado; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Frost, four brothers, Harlan Grice and wife Edith, Glen Grice and wife Vera, Lowell Grice and wife Oletta, Bill Grice, two sisters, Lena Mackey and husband L.D., Betty Nemlowill and husband Cletis, sisters-in-law, Doris Phillips and husband Kenneth and Metta Ediger, brothers-in-law, Georga Hrstka and Glen Cook.
