Dorothy Houston

Woodward, Okla. — Dorothy Pointer Houston was born April 22, 1932 at the home of her parents, Samuel and Emily (Mobley) Pointer in Canadian County, OK, east of Geary.  She went to her heavenly home with Jesus Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, after a long battle with cancer.  “Toby”, as she was called by her brothers and sisters, was the youngest of 6 children.  She was raised in the Karn Spur area, and went to Enterprise School.  On August 21, 1948, she married Doyle W. Houston.  They lived in Geary, moving to Watonga, and on to Woodward, before moving back to the Houston Farm west of Geary.  They moved to Enid in 2002, where Dorothy resided at the time of her death.  She worked for many years as a bookkeeper, and retired from Woodward Savings and Loan in 1973.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Emily Pointer, her beloved husband, Doyle, her brothers and sisters, Dorris, Grant, and Dude Pointer, Winnie Hedrick, and Welvie Biggs, and two sons-in-law, Dan A. Hamilton and Randy C. Morrison.


Dorothy is survived  by daughters;  Debye Rush and her husband Ron, and Beverly J. Morrison all of Enid; two grandchildren, Dusti Covalt Pletcher and her husband Shad of Harper, KS, and Justin Doyle Houston Covalt and his wife Danielle of Wichita, KS; one great granddaughter, Baylee Shyanne Pletcher of Harper, KS; also surviving her are honorary daughter, Susan L. Cox of OKC, and honorary grandson Brandon K. Morrison and his wife Jacki and their daughter Tabor Christine of Ft. Smith, AR; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In lieu of flowers the family request memorials in her memory be made to Hospice Circle of Love in Enid, or the charity of one’s choice with Turner Funeral Home as custodian of the funds.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
