Woodward, Okla. — Karl Wayne Platte was born December 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl tragically left this life on June 1, 2013 as a result of a car accident. He was 32 years of age. He moved with his family to Dora, New Mexico in 1986. While in Dora, Karl asked Jesus into his life at a very young age. It was there that Karl’s competitive, athletic spirit was kindled. In 1992, the Platte family moved to Wilson, Texas where Karl participated in every sport he could imagine and excelled in them all. He grew a great love for all sports and the outdoors.
In June of 1998, the Plattes moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma where he graduated as Co-Valedictorian in 1999. He then continued his education at NWOSU in Alva, where he graduated with a BA in education. Following graduation he took his first job as a coach.
Early in Karl’s college years he met his soul mate, Brandie Lea Long and made her his wife on September 14, 2002. They were blessed with three beautiful children. Karli RaeLynn Platte was born in October 2004, Madison Lea Platte came along in March 2006, and their son Hunter Wayne Platte arrived in September 2009.
Staff Sgt Platte was a decorated veteran of three deployments including the invasion of Iraq, and a combat deployment to Afghanistan. A good man in a storm, and when he was bored, creative enough to generate a storm of his own. His fierce loyalty to his friends and unit made him an integral part of Battle Company’s character, and helped his comrades forgive his ally cat like singing voice, which he used often and at high volume.
Shortly after returning home from his third tour of duty, the family made their home in Big Spring, Texas where Karl took a job at the Federal Prison as a teacher. Karl enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and golfing. Karl had an uncontested patriotic devotion to his country and an unending love for his family.
