Woodward, Okla. —
Charles E. “Gene” Lewis, 78 year old rural Woodward resident, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Rock Church Cemetery, northwest of Woodward. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles E. Gene Lewis was born on July 20, 1935 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Charlie L. And Zelpha (Waters) Lewis. Gene was reared in Pawhuska and graduated from Pawhuska High School. Gene was inducted into the United States Army in June of 1958 and served his country in the Infantry before being honorably discharged in June of 1960.
He was united in marriage to Darlene Barnett on May 3, 1958. They made their home in Olympia, Washington. Gene worked in the oilfield as a Building Contractor and was also a Farmer/Rancher. He loved team roping, hunting and fishing in Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Lewis of the home; one son, Dean Lewis and wife Jolynn of Blanchard; one daughter, Brenda Lewis Hickman of Ft. Supply; one brother Richard Lewis and wife Myrna of Collinsville; six grandchildren, Dusty Kelso and wife Sheila, Destrye Keith, Cody Lewis and wife Kaila, Calli Lewis, Tierra Lewis, Tiegan Lewis, Wyatt Creed; one great-grandchild, Paisley Kelso; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Charles E. Lewis, Jr., mother, father, three sisters, Ida Whelchel, Helen Kelly and Eva Weaver and one brother O’dean Lewis.
