Patsy L. McFarland

Woodward, Okla. — Patsy L. McFarland, 78 year old resident of Woodward, died Monday, July 7, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014 in the Woodward First Baptist Church with the Reverend Beau Hague officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Patsy Louise McFarland was born on August 6, 1935 near Harmon, Oklahoma to Winnie Davis (O’Hair) Sober and Ira Frederik Sober. Patsy grew up in Harmon and in 1946 moved to Woodward. The family left Woodward after surviving the tornado in 1947 and moved back to their farm near Harmon. She attended Parkman Grade School, Woodward Junior High, and Arnett High School where she graduated with the class of 1952. On February 9, 1954, Patsy married Leonard Duane McFarland at the Presbyterian Church in Woodward. While L. D. was serving in the U. S. Army, Patsy lived with her parents in the Harmon area until 1954. After he returned from Japan they moved to Wichita, Kansas and both worked for Boeing from 1954-1959. In 1959 they moved just south of Fargo where they lived until permanently moving to Woodward in 1962. On April 2, 1957, while in Wichita, Kansas, Patsy and L.D. welcomed their first daughter Kathi Jo McFarland. On March 9, 1959, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, they welcomed their second daughter, LaRita (Rita) Jean McFarland.

Patsy was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Woodward for 23 years before retiring. Upon retirement she enjoyed spending time on the family farm with her husband of 60 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her children and grandchildren participate in various activities. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be truly missed by all. She was baptized at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church and was a current member of 1000 Hills Ranch Church.

She is survived by her husband, L.D. McFarland of the home; two daughters, Kathi Boyle and husband Dale of Woodward; LaRita Bowers and husband Donnie of Woodward; four grandchildren, Jeremy Bowers and wife Falisha of Woodward, Kala Gaines and husband Don of Woodward, Danny Boyle and fiancé Josephina Nguyen of Nichols Hills, Ashlee Burgess and husband John of Elk City; four great grandchildren, McKynlie and Colton Bowers; Kadon and Keanan Gaines all of Woodward; brother Jerry Sober and wife Doris of Douglas, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Dennis McFarland of Woodward, sister-in-law June Sober of Woodward; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Winnie Sober, brother John Sober, sisters, Dorothy Hanlon and husband Pat, Letha Buczinski and husband Mike, sister-in-law Minnie McFarland.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Dudley Blaylock was born January 29, 1945 in Higgins, Texas to Edith May and Dudley Jasper Blaylock.  He passed away July 16, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 17 days.

  • Edith Ann Nichols

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

    Susie Louise McNeill of Vici went to be with her Lord on July 16, 2014 after a lengthy illness. Susie was born March 17, 1940 to Johnnie Lee (Jackson) and Thurman Wall in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
