Wilda Marie Schmidt

Woodward, Okla. — Funeral services for Wilda Marie Schmidt age 84 of Woodward will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jim Steenbergen officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery beside her beloved husband Earl.  Visitation will be held on June 3, 2013 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.


Wilda was born to John C.  and Lenora (Bogey) Arnbrecht on June 30, 1928, in Chautauqua, Kansas, and died suddenly May 26, 2013, in Woodward, Oklahoma.  Wilda grew up in several counties in Oklahoma before settling in Woodward with her parents.  While attending the Woodward Fireman’s Ball she met her husband Earl Arthur Schmidt.  Wilda and Earl were united in marriage in Woodward, Oklahoma where they made their home until the 1947 tornado.  They moved to the Schmidt homestead northwest of Tangier where they raised their family.  Wilda helped open and worked at the first TG&Y store in Woodward.  She also worked at Frost Department Store and retired from Atwoods.


Wilda was active in the Oklahoma Homes and Community Education (OHCE), Better Homes Club, and took part in the Woodward County Fairs.  She loved family gatherings especially at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and sunrise breakfast on Easter.  Wilda spent her last days over the Memorial holiday in the camaraderie of family and friends at Fort Supply Lake doing all the outdoor activities she most enjoyed.  Her beloved dog Cheyenne, even spent one night RVing by her side.


Wilda is survived by three children, Billy Dale Schmidt and wife Susan of Oklahoma City, Dian Sue Martin and husband Steve of Woodward, and William Dean Schmidt and wife Debbie of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Heather, Christina, and Sherri Schmidt, Richard, Christi and Timothy Martin; nephew, Clayton Evans and wife Judie of Woodward; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Coffey of Wichita, KS; Pat Arnbrecht of Woodward; niece, Guyla Marshall of Woodward; many other nieces, nephews, family, many friends and neighbors.


Wilda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Verla Williams, and Mae Brown, two brothers, Herbert and Harvey Arnbrecht, and one grandbaby, Jeffrey Dean Schmidt.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
