Woodward, Okla. — Howard Roy Moore was born January 27, 1931. He passed from this life on July 21, 2013 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 82. Howard was born in the family home of Sheldon Howard Moore, southwest of Leedey, Oklahoma. His parents were Roy Smith Moore and Helen Murphy Moore.
In 1934, Howard and Roy moved to Summerdale, Alabama. Roy married Ruth Harrison. Howard appreciated her good cooking and kind care. He enjoyed an active childhood and especially enjoyed spending time with his dad watching and learning from him a manner of doing business. This was a cherished time in Howard’s life.
In 1944, the Moore family moved back to Leedey and in 1946 settled southeast of Moorewood. Howard attended Leedey High School and graduated in 1949. He attended and was baptized at the Leedey First United Methodist Church.
On September 15, 1951 Howard married Pauline Harrel, in Leedey, Oklahoma. This was the beginning of a strong partnership that lasted 57 years. The two of them worked side by side, whether it be gathering and doctoring cattle or plowing and sowing wheat. They shared a love for farming and ranching. They had one child, Susan Gaye. She married Shawn Frey, in Eunice, Louisiana in 1999. They have two children Shane Howard 21 and Sydney Rae 14 of Marlow, Oklahoma.
Howard loved a challenge and enjoyed buying and selling whether it was cattle, horses or land. They farmed and ranched near Cheyenne, Foss, Ringling, Butler and Leedey, Oklahoma.
Howard loved a good horse, but especially a race horse. His greatest success came in 1999 when Okey Dokey Dale was named champion 3 year old colt. Another horse dear to Howard was Scrutinizer, a son of Okey Dokey Dale. Both horses winning on the track and then standing at stud.
He and Pauline loved spending time in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Meeting people with the same interest and enjoying the horse races. Pauline became ill and passed on August 10, 2009. During her illness Howard was a wonderful caregiver to his wife.
