Woodward, Okla. —
Homer Lloyd Gifford was born March 15, 1943 at the family home in Harmon, Oklahoma to Homer Lee and Thelma Faye (McClung) Gifford. He passed from this life on July 13, 2013 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 70 at the time of his death.
Lloyd grew up in the Follett and Higgins, Texas area. He attended school in both towns and graduated with the Class of 1962 from Higgins High School. While in high school he worked for Vester Smith and Bill Schultz doing ranch work. Shortly after graduation he attended the Oklahoma Ferrier College at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On March 27, 1976 Lloyd was united in marriage to Carol Sue Horner. They were married in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Woodward, Oklahoma. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of twin daughters, Marlene and Darlene.
Lloyd and Carol made their first home in Booker, Texas for a short while. Lloyd worked for Robert Schultz. They moved from there to Laverne, Oklahoma where they remained for several years. During their time in Laverne Lloyd owned and operated a custom hay-hauling business while working for Allen Barby. In 1990, the whole family moved to Higgins, Texas and Lloyd worked again for Vester Smith. In 1996 Lloyd and Carol moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where they have remained until his death. Lloyd worked for the Woodward County District No. 3.
Lloyd enjoyed hunting and fishing, flying radio controlled airplanes and his special dog, Pistol. His favorite time was being with family and friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee and Thelma Faye Gifford; brother-in-law, George Sunderland and one nephew. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol of the home; daughters, Marlene Myers and husband David of Woodward, Oklahoma and Darlene Walker and husband Chad of Canadian, Texas; grandchildren, Chance and Gracen Walker of Canadian, Texas and one step-grandson, Jonathan Myers of Woodward, Oklahoma; sisters, Thelma Sunderland of Bethany, Oklahoma, Wilma Dettinger and husband Robert of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Etta Baumgartner and husband Raymond of Woodward, Oklahoma; mother-in-law Helen Horner Bratten of Woodward, OK; several nieces, nephews and a life time of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart and Diabetes Division, in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
