Wilford "Gene" Eugene Dixon was born on March 26,1927 in Burden, KS to Raymond Lee and Jewel (Yost) Dixon. Gene attended school in Kiowa, KS and Anthony, KS were he graduated in 1945. In 1946 he went into the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and as Chief Warrant Officer. He returned home in 1947 and continued to serve in the reserves until 1962. Gene was blessed with two sons, Jim Dixon and Mike Dixon from a previous marriage. On May 22, 1982 he married Shirley Schoenhals. To this union he inherited two more sons, Stacey Scheonhals and Delmar Schoenhals and two daughters, Sherrie Cole and Norvella Miller. Gene graduated with his certificate in accounting from Adela Hale School in Hutchinson, KS in 1951 and began a long time love and passion for his career in accounting in 1962, opening Gene Dixon Accounting in Woodward. He retired in July 2013 and moved to Shattuck. Gene was very active in the Elks. He was a member for 52 years. During that time he was a Ritual Coach for 18 years, was granted title of Exalted Ruler in 1966 and again in 1975, was named Elk of the year in 1963 and 1974, and also served as a Rodeo Trustee from 1980-1989. He was the State treasurer for the Elks for 21 years. Gene joined the VFW in 1949 and served as a Quarter Master for 17 years. He was elected to the United Fund Board in 1964 and served as Drive Chairman in 1965 and then President in 1966. Gene also coached baseball on the little League teams and did some refereeing in football for the local Kids Inc. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. Gene enjoyed watching sports on TV while doing crossword puzzles. Gene is survived by his wife Shirley Dixon of Shattuck, OK. His children: Jim Dixon and wife Marsha, of Bella Vista, AR; Mike Dixon and wife Donna, of Erick, OK; Sherrie Cole and husband Ron, of Gage, OK; Norvella Miller, of Woodward, OK; Stacey Schoenhals and wife Jeannette, of Shattuck, OK; Delmar Schoenhals and wife Judy, of Elk City, OK; Gina Dykes and husband Marty, of Amarillo, TX. One brother Darrel Dixon and wife Harriet of Keizer, Oregon. 25 Grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and a special furry friend Muffy. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Greg, brother Carl and sister Bonnie Lee.
