Woodward, Okla. —
Denny Mack Carmichael, 77 year old from Higgins, TX passed from this life on August 29, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK. Denny was born on March 6, 1936 in Higgins, TX to Ray and Hazel Gragg Carmichael. He attended Higgins Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1954. Denny was inducted into the United States Army on September 26, 1956. During his stint in the Army, Denny thought his company would be sent to Germany. Big brother Jack was stationed there. The entire company was sent to Germany except for Denny and one other person. The two were sent to Iceland. Denny was honorable discharged on September 25, 1958, he then joined the reserves where he served until August 31, 1962.
After military service Denny managed a service station until he was injured, June 1, 1969. Denny then began to work as an assessor for school taxes. Denny started working with wood and found he enjoyed making items for his family and friends.
Denny’s mental strength and fortitude throughout his life have always been an amazing inspiration to all who knew him. He lived alone and cared for himself. In November of 2012 he moved into a living center and remained there or a hospital until his death. Even during this time Denny was pleasant to be around (most of the time). He was a tribute to the Dale Carnige Program and had a winning personality. He was so happy he can now rejoice in heaven. He is probably telling Big Stories and passing out M&M’s to all the children.
Denny or Bubba is survived by sisters Carol Gourley and husband Gary of Corinth, TX, Linda Knowles and husband Jerry of Arnett, OK, Frankie Summers of Garden City, KS, and Suzie Hardison of Alvord, TX; brother-in-law, Ken Bickelhaupt of Dallas, TX; many nieces, nephews, other family and many, many friends.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Troy Lee and Jack Carmichael, brother-in-law Tom Hardison and nephews Doug Hardison and Jeff Knowles.
