June A. Duggin

Woodward, Okla. — June A. Duggin, 82 year old former Woodward, Oklahoma resident, died  in Wichita, Kansas on March 29, 2013 of complications resulting from a stroke suffered in July of 2011.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in the First Presbyterian Church of Woodward with the Reverend Gay Cocheres officiating.  Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home.

 

Carmalita June Alley was born on July 6, 1930, the 7th of 9 children of Corbett L. and Gladys M. (Fithen) Alley.  She was born on the family farm 21 miles northeast of Woodward, Oklahoma.  Her primary school days were spent at Mountain View, District 42.  She attended Woodward High School, graduating with the class of 1946.  She attended Oklahoma A & M College (OSU), receiving a B.S. degree in 1950.  June was married to Thomas A. Duggin of Woodward on June 11, 1950.  To this union, 2 children were born, Daniel Graham Duggin, on November 29, 1951, and Nancy Beth Duggin, on December 6, 1954.  June was blessed with 5 wonderful grandchildren, Brooke (Martin) Albright, Brenna (Duggin) Jagne, Sarah (Martin) Ward, Andrew Duggin, and Caleb Martin.

 

She leaves behind 9 adorable great-grandchildren: Jaia Brewer, Rakie Jagne, Grace, Nathan and Spencer Albright, Anna and Ben Ward, and Isaac and Sam Martin.

 

June worked as a secretary, legal secretary/legal assistant for many years.  She obtained her paralegal certificate in 1981.  She worked as William R. Burkett’s legal secretary in Woodward for three years.  After that she worked with Andrew J. “Jack” Moore for 13 years, then with William “Bill” Smithton for 7 years.  From 1990 to 2002, she was employed as a part-time computer operator at Woodward Hospital and Health Center.  From 2004 to 2007, she filled in at Jerry Rizley’s law office.  Her work was very important to her, and was appreciated by those with whom she worked.  In the late 1960's June was an organizer and charter president of a 5-county legal secretary’s association.  She was a member of Chapter AA, P.E.O. for 45 years and the local AAUW chapter, having served as an officer in both organizations.  She transferred to Chapter CI  P.E.O. in Wichita after she and Tom relocated there in 2010.  She was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Woodward, and served as clerk of session for 20 years.  She was recording clerk for Dr. Marion W. Conditt for 4 years when he was stated clerk of Cimarron Presbytery.  She was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation in 1987.

 

June was predeceased by her parents, brothers Dean, Don, Murlin and Eldon, sister Agnes, 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.  She is survived by her beloved husband of over 62 years, Tom and her children, Dan Duggin of Bow, Washington; Nancy Martin and husband David of Wichita, Kansas; former daughter-in-law, Dee Hyde Begany; five grandchildren, 3 grandsons-in-law, Gene Albright, Chris Ward, and Muhammed Jagne, 2 granddaughters-in-law, Shannon Martin and Andrea Duggin, former grandson-in-law Jay Brewer, and 9 great grandchildren whom she adored.  She is also survived by her sister, Lois Kibby; 2 brothers, Jack and Corbett Alley, 2 sisters-in-law, Reta and Pat, several nieces and nephews, grand-neices and grand-nephews, cousins, and her extended family, the Gustavo and Ester Nunez family of Argentina, the Anders and Birgitta (Widahl) Hult family of Sweden, and many friends.

 

June enjoyed reading, dancing, playing bridge, and traveling with Tom, especially those trips to see grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She and Tom were members of the FPC in Woodward for over 50 years and transferred to Trinity Presbyterian Church of Wichita in 2010.  They were fortunate to have been able to visit many countries, among them Argentina, Brazil, England, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Woodward, Oklahoma with the funeral home accepting the donations.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Dudley Blaylock was born January 29, 1945 in Higgins, Texas to Edith May and Dudley Jasper Blaylock.  He passed away July 16, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 17 days.

  • Edith Ann Nichols

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
