Woodward, Okla. — Dorothy M. Spray, 84 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Shane Eckley officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Dorothy Mae Spray came into this world on October 28, 1925 in Gary, Indiana to Fanny Mae Mejean. In the depression days, Dorothy was adopted by a family in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dorothy attended school in Salt Lake City and sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during her teen years. In the early 1950's, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leolen A. Spray in Ft. Worth, Texas. To this union were born eight children, two girls and six boys. Dorothy loved her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her second love was her cats and anything with a cat picture or saying on it.
Leolen and Dorothy raised their children south of Woodward on a farm. She took in washing and ironing to help with extra income. There was always a need with Eight Children!! Dorothy worked as a janitor for Woodward Production Credit and Horace Mann School. She then worked at the Woodward Livestock Café and later as head Cook for Woodward Nursing Home.
Dorothy was a hard working wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a heart of gold who was deeply loved by her family and will be missed by all of them.
She is survived by seven children, daughter, Loetta Smith and husband Victor of Woodward, son, Larry Spray and wife Leila of Woodward, son, Lonny "Lonzo" Spray and wife Kim of Woodward, son, L.Mike Spray of Newcastle, son, Leroy Spray of Woodward, daughter, Lana Spray of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; son, Lance Spray of Oklahoma City; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-granchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leolen in 1978 and one son, Lyndon Eugene in 2009.
