Roberta Mae Rittenhouse

Woodward, Okla. — Roberta Mae Rittenhouse, 86 year old Woodward resident died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Grace Living Center. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 17, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Lawrence Glennie officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Roberta Mae (Harrison) Rittenhouse was born March 27, 1927 in the family home in Harper county to Frank and Verneda (Taylor) Harrison. Roberta attended Mount Olive, Willard, Fort Supply and graduated from Woodward High School. Roberta also attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She was united in marriage to Melvin Rittenhouse on November 23, 1945 in Oakland, California where Melvin was stationed in the Navy. After Melvin was discharged from the military, the couple made their home in Woodward. Roberta and Melvin had three children, Lynn, Jerri and Crieg. While Melvin was overseas in the Navy, Roberta worked as a telephone operator. Later she worked for Orlin Trego at Trego’s during Christmas and the Woodward Elks Rodeo. Roberta was very active in her church and Cowbells. She loved to travel the country with friends , work in her yard and play with her grandchildren. Roberta suffered with Alzheimers disease and was a resident of Crystal Wood and Grace Living Center for eight years.

Roberta is survived by her husband Melvin Rittenhouse of Woodward; daughter Lynn Hamm and husband Dan Coombs of Woodward; daughter Jerri and family; son Crieg Rittenhouse and wife Bernita of Eufaula.

Roberta is survived by grandchildren Emma Davis and husband Tony; Erin Bos; Amber Freudenberger; Kenedee Rittenhouse; Tevin Rittenhouse;             J Snider and husband Tra; great-grandchildren Caidence, Paige, Anny, and Libby Snider, Jessica Bos and Andrew Davis. She is also survived by sisters Eileen Day, Helen Riley and husband John and a sister in law, Darlene Rittenhouse; nieces and nephews Barbara and Bran Roberts and Chelsey, Jeana Day and Bryan, Rex Day, and Jase, Doug and Amber Riley and Harrison, Dana and Pat Cheap, Kinley and Colton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a baby brother.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Matthew William Beers was born on February 6, 1917 at Arnett, OK. His mother died when he was a baby, and he was adopted by an aunt and uncle, Mark and Ollie (Allgire) Beers. Matthew grew up in the Harmon community and attended school in Arnett. He married Della Cooper on July 20, 1941 in the home of his parents. Shortly after marriage, Matthew entered the Army during World War II, where he served as a Medic. He returned to the Harmon community after his discharge.
