Ferne Juanita Trip

Woodward, Okla. — Fern Juanita Tripp of Edmond, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in the Sterling House in Edmond at the age of 92 years.

Fern Juanita Tripp was born on April 24, 1920, in Freedom, Oklahoma, to Eber Herbert and Ethel Lillie (Redding) Dotter. She grew up in Freedom graduating from Freedom High School in 1938. She furthered her education by attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva where she majored in business. Following her education she moved to Oklahoma City where she began working for an advertising agency. She married Raymond Allen Tripp on February 12, 1948, in Oklahoma City and they settled in Blackwell where she served her family as an active homemaker. During her children’s elementary years she served as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader, homeroom mother, and taught arts and crafts at the Blackwell Youth Center during the summers. A pioneer in occupational equality, she organized the ladies auxiliary for the Blackwell Zinc Company serving as the group’s president. On the state level, she presided over the AFL-CIO ladies auxiliary as their president. She later worked at the local nursing homes administering their arts and crafts program as director of activities. She was a member of the First Christian Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed various arts and crafts, but the greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

She is survived by a son, Tommy Tripp and wife Pam of Prescott, Arizona;  two daughters, Kaye Snyder and husband Steve and Rena’ Rhoades and husband Dutch, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sisters, Vernona Janzen of Bakersfield, California, and Lois Enix of Ponca City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Vaughna Mae Kimm; and two brothers, Jack and Jerry Dotter.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with the Rev. Jeff Koch of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers will be Steve Snyder, Dutch Rhoades, Jeff Price and Alan Ray Price. Honorary casketbearers will be Dustin and Derreck Tripp.

Memorials have been established in her honor with the Free to Live Animal Sanctuary in Edmond or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Alzheimer’s research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma  74361.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
