Woodward, Okla. — John Timothy “Tim” Roper Sr, 58 year old Woodward area resident, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home east of Woodward. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Bill Tindell officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Ft. Supply.
John Timothy Roper was born on October 29, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland to Chester Elsworth and Myrtle (Hudson) Roper. Tim grew up in Maryland and Tennessee and graduated from high school in Maryland. He attended college at the University of Tennessee. Tim was united in marriage to Cindy Catlin in Dodge City, Kansas they made their home in Buffalo. They were blessed with four children. In 1986 Tim and Cindy moved to Ft. Supply where they reared their family. He was united in marriage to Peggy Butler in Kansas and they made their home in Woodward. Tim worked as a Mechanic for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for over 20 years until he retired for health reason.
Tim enjoyed hunting, riding horses, hotrods, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother Myrtle Roper of Vale, North Carolina; two sons, John Timothy “J.R.” Roper Jr. of Woodward, Randall L. Roper of Vici; two daughters, Melissa P. Roper-Myers and husband John of Fargo, Jennifer A. Roper of Alexandria, Virginia; one brother, James Roper of Rogersville, Tennessee; one sister, Donna Smith and husband Gene of Vale, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Shanae, Bryce, Jerret, Peyton, Laramie, Ashtynn, Stetson, and Jalynn; his beloved dog, Gator; numerous other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved wife Peggy.
