Woodward, Okla. — RANDY MCCORMICK, 59 year old Canute resident formerly of Woodward died Monday March 18, 2013 in the Intergis Clinton Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 23, 2013 in the Woodward Arts Theater with Reverend Charlie Graves and Reverend Terry Kohen officiating.  The Billings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Randal Dean McCormick was born June 15, 1953 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Warren and Helen (Lochmann) McCormick.  Randy was reared in Woodward where he attended Woodward Schools graduating with the class of 1973. Throughout high school Randy was very active in Theater. After graduation, Randy enlisted in the United States Navy.  In naval school he studied to become a Naval photographer and control operator.  He also toured Europe.  He served in the flight line on the USS Forrestal until he was Honorably  discharged in 1975.  A few months later he was introduced to his future wife Nancy Thornton.  They were married on April 24, 1976 and made their home in Woodward.   In 1978 they welcomed their first child Stacy Dayan. That same year Randy started working as a Fireman for the City of Woodward Fire Department . While working for the fire department, he established the Woodward Firefighter Clown Society and Safety Sam was created.  As Safety Sam he would go to various schools teaching fire safety.  In 1981 Randy and Nancy welcomed a baby boy Dustin Keith.


In the Summer of 1986, Randy was burned in a fire and as a result he retired from the Fire Department  in 1987.  Randy was a strong supporter of the Woodward Arts Theater, performing in over 58 plays and performance over 39 years.   May 2012 Randy retired from the theater with his final performance in Titanic.

In June of 2012 Randy and Nancy moved to Foss Lake where they enjoyed spending time on the lake and visiting with their new neighbor friends around the lake.  Randy truly loved and was very proud of his three pride and joys, his grandchildren Andie, Maisyn and Aidan.


Randy was involved in many,  many local organizations and clubs.  He was actively involved in his community and well be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of the home; son, Dustin McCormick and wife Neva of Woodward; daughter, Stacy Croisant and husband Jack of Woodward; mother Helen McCormick of Canute; sister, Diana Geiger and husband George of Dallas, TX, 3 grandchildren;  numerous other family and many friends.


Randy is preceded in death by his father, Warren McCormick.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodward Arts Theater with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
