Marla Guthrie

Woodward, Okla. — Marla Guthrie, 74 year old Vici resident, died Monday, July 1, 2013 at her home.  Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Sharon with Reverend Jeff Bradley officiating.  Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

 

Marla Ellen (Brockelman) Guthrie was born on December 6, 1938 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Burl Leroy and May Marguerite (Horner) Brockelman.  Marla was reared in the Woodward and Sharon area.  She attended school in Woodward through the 6th grade and graduated from Sharon High School.  Marla was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Merle Guthrie on December 27, 1958 at Merle’s mom and dad’s home east of Sharon.  They made their first home in Woodward before moving south of Sharon for a period of time.  The family then moved northwest of Vici in 1978 and has lived there since that time.

Marla was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sharon.  She enjoyed cooking and sewing, but most of all she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.  Marla was President of the Northwest Cattlemen’s Association, she was a member of the Red Hats and the Republican Committee.  She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting activities.

 

She is survived by her husband Merle Guthrie of the home; two sons, Craig Guthrie of Vici, Lynn Guthrie and wife Janet of Canadian, Texas; one daughter Christina Fields and husband Eddie of Wynona; one brother, Nathan Brockelman and wife Nylene of Weatherford; six precious grandchildren, Nicole, Destry, Venessa Guthrie and Tailor, Jacie, and Tristan Fields; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cecil Guthrie and wife Linda; other relatives and many friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kent Ivens Guthrie, and her in-laws, Buck and Grace Guthrie.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sharon with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

    Ival Lee Miller, Camargo, Oklahoma resident, died on July 8, 2014, at the Seiling Hospital at the age of 93 years, 1 month and 27 days. Ival was born May 11, 1921, at Dr Harris’ office in Camargo, to Maurice Denton and Leota Myrle (Wing) Miller.

    Charles E. “Gene” Lewis, 78 year old rural Woodward resident, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Rock Church Cemetery, northwest of Woodward.  Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army. Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

    Karrie Lee Newman, age 55, of Texarkana, Arkansas, passed away Friday, July11, 2014 in a Texarkana Hospital.

    Karrie was born November 2, 1958 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Dean and Moeta McDonald Newman. She is an Office Manager for Retail Sales and a member of Mutual Methodist Church in Mutual, Oklahoma.
