Woodward, Okla. —
Lee Don Poulson was born September 24, 1952 to Donovan “Don” C. and Evelyn V. (Smith) Poulson at his grandparents’ home in rural Dewey County. Surrounded by his family, he passed peacefully from this world on February 2, 2014 at his home in Vici, Oklahoma. He was raised in rural Woodward County, attending school at Mutual and graduating in 1970. He often shared childhood memories of milking cows at Grumpy and Granny Poulson’s, working in the fields with his father and Uncle Dean Poulson, and of course fishing with Grumpy. Other stories of his youth usually involved motorcycles, younger brother Darell or sister Recia and also the Moss family who were neighbors and close friends. He was a gifted gardener and built his own greenhouse as a FFA project while in high school. Gardening was a lifelong pleasure, especially when he could involve family, friends and neighbors. Lee Don also purchased a hay rig while in high school. He employed numerous friends and classmates to haul hay. This venture was successful enough that he paid his own tuition to Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma, where he majored in Physics.
Lee Don loved going to church and traveling with the young kids. In November 1970, while attending college, he requested baptism at the hand of Bro. Jack Robinson at the Church of the Firstborn in Enid. Lee Don sought to serve the Lord for the remainder of his life.
After a year of college, Lee Don moved back to the family farm. He took a job at Lucas Nursery in Woodward and remained employed there for three years. Following that, he moved to Oklahoma City and began roofing with the Hays family. While there, he met and grew to love Gail Lynn Criswell. Lee Don and Gail were married on July 4, 1975 at Del City Oklahoma. In January 1976 they moved to Vici where Lee Don began his own roofing business. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Jason Dean, Jeremy Don, Jessica Lynn, Jedediah Robert and Jeff Criswell.
