Lily Diana Hays Jackson

Woodward, Okla. — Lily Diana Hays Jackson was born to Russell and Juanita Hays on April 6, 1943, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and passed from this life on January 31, 2014, at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital, Enid, Oklahoma.  She was reared by her mother in Tulsa, where she attended public schools, graduating from Will Rogers High School in 1961.  She attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where she graduated in 1965 with a B.A. in Business Studies.  After graduation she worked for Dr. Joe Pryor, at Harding, and then taught school at Central High School, Little Rock, Arkansas.

She returned to Tulsa to help her mother.  While teaching at Will Rogers High School, she met her future husband, Joe L. Jackson, a student at Tulsa University, College of Law.  They were married July 29, 1969, and Matthew C. Jackson and Travis F. Jackson were born to them.

She moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma, in 1975, and became Joe’s Legal Secretary in Arnett, Oklahoma.  When Joe became the Associate District Judge of Ellis County, she returned to school and obtained a M.A. in Library Science from NWOSU, Alva.

She leaves her husband, Joe L. Jackson, her son CDR Matthew C. Jackson, USN and Stacy Jackson of Ridgecrest, California, and Travis F. Jackson and his partner Stephen Friedfeld of Boston, Massachusetts, two grandchildren, Riley and Macy, one sister, Ann Tognazzinni, of South San Francisco, California, nieces Laurie E. Hays Thompson and Doug Thompson of Arnett, Oklahoma, Anita and Steve Maxwell, of Half Moon Bay, California, and numerous other relatives, in-laws, and friends.

Lily was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, having accepted her Lord after attending a Billy Graham Rally in her youth.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Food Bank, 3355 Purdue Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73137 in her honor.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday,  February 4, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Shattuck, OK at 10:00 a.m. with Allen Everett officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at  Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, OK with the Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck in charge of arrangements.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
