She attended Phillips University in Enid for a year but then eloped and married Linn Williamson in Wellington, Kansas in May of 1946. They were married for 56 years before his passing in 2003.
To this union two children were born: Diana Lynn in 1949 and Danny G. in 1950.
In 1956 Linn began working for Phillips Petroleum and they moved to Fritch, Texas. Gerry worked in the Post Office for four years.
In 1962 they moved to Lovington, New Mexico where they remained for the next 35 years.
In 1963 she decided to return to college and go into education. She attended college of the Southwest which started out in one building in Hobbs, New Mexico. Gerry attended the college as it grew to a four year accredited college. She earned her BA in elementary education and started teaching in Lovington in 1966. She earned her Master’s degree in 1969 from Texas Tech.
Gerry was an avid sports fan and Linn, Diana, and she enjoyed following Danny play football and basketball during his school years. At one time she and Linn were in a bowling League, canasta club, and she took tennis lessons at age 45.
In the last few years she had become an avid Thunder fan. She never missed a game on TV and talked them through each play. The Thunder has lost one of their best fans.
