Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Clarence Melvin Wilson was born on July 5, 1919 in Leedey, Oklahoma to Clarence Noble and Myrtle Lucille (Fimple) Wilson. He was reared in Leedey and graduated from Leedey High School in 1937. Melvin attended Draughns Business School in Oklahoma City. He was united in marriage to Lois Nelson and they were blessed with four children, Gerald, Larry, Melvena and Sandra. Melvin worked as a farmer and rancher and at the sale barn for many years. He also owned race horses for many years.
Melvin was united in marriage to Joy Sue Patton on November 1, 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico. They made their home in Leedey before later moving to Woodward. They enjoyed traveling together and watching OU football, OKC Thunder, and the New York Yankees.
Melvin was a member of the Bible Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Woodward Elks Lodge and always loved helping with the rodeo. One of his favorite things to do was going to the Woodward Sale Barn and visiting with all of his friends. Melvin enjoyed horse racing and coyote hunting.
He is survived by one son, Gerald Wilson and wife Lynn of Casa Grande, Arizona; two daughters, Melvena Allen and husband Eddie of Casa Grande, Arizona, Sandra Hampton and husband Cecil of Wichita Falls, Texas; brother, Jimmy Wilson and wife Christine of Leedey; eight grandchildren, Gerald Logsdon and wife Heather of Mesquite, Texas, Tama Shannon and husband Michael of Wichita Falls, Texas; Larry Allen and wife Pat, Gary Allen and wife Lauri, Shari Lock and husband Kendall of Garden City, Kansas, Julie Bradford and husband John of Ridgecrest, California, Danny Wilson and wife Kristi of Germany, Susan Carol Craighead of Mustang; great-grandchildren, Justin and Megan Shannon, Tori and Anthony Davis, Josh and Caleb Logsdon, Gabby Braser, Matthew and Laura Bradford, Kyle Wilson, Jonathon and Micaila Lock, Jenna and Garrett Allen, Kamber and Kimber Craighead; eight great-great-grandchildren; a very special friend and companion for three wonderful years, Joy Cunningham, with whom he shared a special love with; sister-in-law, Barbara Nix; brother-in-law, Gerry Patton and wife Alice of Skiatook; loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
