Woodward, Okla. — Ray Eugene Hensley was born September 1, 1946 in the Mooreland Community Hospital; he was the son of Vern and Corinne (Syms) Hensley.  He left his earthly life June 30, 2013 in Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.    Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mooreland United Methodist Church with the Reverend Larry Masoner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery with the United States Army providing military rites.  Visitation will be held at the Billings Funeral Home in Woodward on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

 

Ray attended Curtis Schools until the 8th grade.  He then attended Mooreland High School, graduating with the class of 1964.  In high school, Ray was active in football, FFA, basketball, baseball, track and spending time with his siblings.  Ray was inducted into the USArmy and served in Germany for eighteen months and was honorably discharged.  Ray was united in marriage on August 24, 1968 to Joleen Apple.  Ray and Joleen made their home on the family farm for a few years.  Ray and Joleen were blessed with three children, Skyler Ray, Lance Heath and Amy Dawnell.  They moved to Mooreland where they raised their family.

 

Ray worked for Cities Service retiring after 30 plus years of service.  He also enjoyed farming and ranching his entire life and spent some of his last days in the seat of a tractor.  Ray was a volunteer fireman for 20 years and a member of the American Legion and the Mooreland United Methodist Church.

 

Ray was a devoted son, husband, dad, grandpa and papa, brother and friend.  He spent countless hours loving and caring for his family.  He took Joleen everywhere, camping to Colorado and enjoyed going to the  casino.  He spent time watching Amy and Lance in all their activities.  He loved to hunt, fish, and golf.  His greatest joy were his grandchildren.  He loved teaching them his gifts.

 

Ray was preceded in death by his infant son, Skylar and his Dad, Vern Hensley; his father-in-law Clyde Apple and his mother-in-law Dodie Apple.

 

Ray is survived by his lovely wife of 45 years, Joleen of the home; his mother Corinne Hensley of Mooreland; his son Lance Hensley and wife Tina of Mooreland; his daughter, Amy Kremeier and husband Doug of Okarche; three precious grandchildren, Conagher Hensley, Kayla Kremeier and Kendon Kremeier; brothers, Lowell Hensley and wife Barbara of Woodward; Dean Hensley and wife Eileen of Mooreland; Leland Hensley and wife Mary Jane of Mooreland; Leroy Hensley and wife Anna Faye of Great Bend, Kansas; one sister Leah Hepner of Mooreland; special friends, Edgar and Vada Goodman and their family.  He is also survived by aunts and uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

 

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
