Billy Robert Sweet

Woodward, Okla. —

Billy Robert Sweet, 77 year old Vici, OK, resident, passed from this life on July 18, 2013, in Woodward, OK. Bill was born on November 26, 1935, at Shattuck, OK; to Otto Lee and Thelma (Elliott) Sweet. After the death of his mother at the age of 3 months, Billy was reared by his grandparents, Walt and Audrey Elliott.

Bill grew up in the Harmon and Vici communities attending a country school near Harmon and Vici Public Schools. After marriage Bill lived in Harmon, OK; Vici, OK; Woodward, OK; Wichita, KS; and Auburn, NE; before returning to Vici in 1982.

On November 1, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Leota Sue Turner. Two little daughters, Joanna Sue and Lana Brooke, and one son, Harry Lynn, were born to this union. In 1962 Bill was blessed with a daughter, Guylia Jene and another, Lisa Adele in 1965. On February 14, 1983, he married Helen Findlay in Vici, OK. The couple made their home in Vici and lived happily together for 30 years. He rededicated his life to the Lord in 1987, finding peace and happiness. Bill had been baptized at the local Baptist Church as a child. He was a faithful member of the Vici Church of the Nazarene and had served on the church board. He also enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday’s.

Bill was a heavy equipment operator, rancher, farmer and worked many years at Dewey County District III. He had many interests, with most of his enjoyment coming from attending Church, fishing, gardening and hunting. Bill loved fishing with his little buddy and grandson Dominque. One of his more proud fishing adventures was landing his 68lb catfish he caught at Great Salt Plains Lake. The fish fell just short of the state record by 4lbs.

Those preceding Bill in death include parents Otto and Thelma Sweet, grandparents Walt and Audrey Elliott, brother Lawrence Sweet, infant daughter Guylia Sweet, daughter Joanna Martin and one granddaughter Alisha Moser. He is survived by wife Helen Sweet of the home in Vici, OK; son Harry Sweet of Woodward, OK; daughters Lana Williams of Woodward, OK and Lisa Branson and husband Ryan of Vici, OK; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; other relatives; a special dog, “Brownie” and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday July 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, Vici, OK with interment following in Harmon Cemetery, Harmon, OK. Condolences may be made to the family and Memorial Tribute viewed at shawfuneralhome.net

    Christina T. Leist went to meet her Savior and Friend on April 18, 2014. She was born February 7, 1928 at her Grandmother’s home in Woodward, Oklahoma, the first of 10 ten children born to Richard and Pearl Teten. Her father was one of OG&E’s original lineman and foreman and her mother was Court Clerk in Woodward County for almost 20 years. She was proud that her family had twins and triplets, 9 girls and one boy. She graduated high school in Woodward and attended one year at Oklahoma University, majoring in art.

    Leone Dell (Davis) Thompson, daughter of Jess and Esther M. (Waggoner) Davis was born near Mulhall, Oklahoma on February 16, 1911 and passed from this life in Vici, Oklahoma on April 15, 2014 at the age of 103. Leone was raised in Covington, Oklahoma attending Covington Grade School. Then moved to the farm west of Vici, Oklahoma her freshman year. She graduated from Vici High School with the class of 1930, then attended Northwestern State Teachers College. She graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree.
