Allen L. Covalt

Woodward, Okla. — Allen L. Covalt, 70 year old Woodward resident, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Tony Barros officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

 

Allen Leon Covalt was born on July 5, 1941 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Harold Austin “Red” and Margaret Faye (Highfill) Covalt.  Allen was reared in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1959.  Allen graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1964 with a Business Education/Physical Education Degree.  He was united in marriage to Gloria Kaye Burns on June 13, 1964 in Frederick, Oklahoma.  They made their first home in Burns Flat, where Allen was a coach and a teacher.  He also taught and coached at Woodward from 1967-1968 and Mangum from 1968-1969.  Allen received his Masters in Counseling from Southwestern in 1969.  After the death of his father in 1969, Allen took over the family business, Covalt Termite Control in Woodward and continued running it until his retirement in 2005.  His son’s continue to run Covalt Termite Control today.

 

Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Kids Inc. Board and the Woodward Golf Association.  He had also served Woodward on the City Commission as Mayor.  Allen was very involved in the lives of his three sons and his grandchildren.  He loved attending all of their sporting events.

 

He is survived by his wife Gloria Covalt of the home; three sons, Gregory Allen Covalt and wife Debbie of Woodward, Jason Wade and wife Sonya of Woodward, Geoffrey Harold and wife Shana of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, Carli Jill, Casey Gregory, Amanda Jayne, Reagan Hope, Campbell Wade, Cooper Callahan, Colby Chance, Cade Kennedy; one brother Austin Covalt and wife LaRue of Russell, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Ann Clinkscales, Sue Nevius, David Covalt, Grant Beadles, Justin Beadles, Cody Cunningham Burns, Clint Allen Burns, Jack Hahn, Jennie Burns; brother-in-law, Glen Burns and wife Dana; sister-in-law, LaRue Burns; other relatives and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Phyllis Kay Beadles, brothers-in-law, Alvin Beadles and LeRoy Burns.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Lewy Body Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

She was born February 7, 1928 at her Grandmother’s home in Woodward, Oklahoma, the first of 10 ten children born to Richard and Pearl Teten. Her father was one of OG&E’s original lineman and foreman and her mother was Court Clerk in Woodward County for almost 20 years. She was proud that her family had twins and triplets, 9 girls and one boy. She graduated high school in Woodward and attended one year at Oklahoma University, majoring in art.

(Waggoner) Davis was born near Mulhall, Oklahoma on February 16, 1911 and passed from this life in Vici, Oklahoma on April 15, 2014 at the age of 103. Leone was raised in Covington, Oklahoma attending Covington Grade School. Then moved to the farm west of Vici, Oklahoma her freshman year. She graduated from Vici High School with the class of 1930, then attended Northwestern State Teachers College. She graduated college with a Bachelor of Science degree.
