Woodward, Okla. — Mary Jane Hammans, 70 year old Woodward resident, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with her son Daniel Dewayne Hammans officiating. Interment will be in

Elmwood Cemetery of Woodward. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

  Mary Jane Hammans was born on July 21, 1940 at the farm home of her grandparents in Major County, Oklahoma to Orville Franklin and Dora Marie (Thomas) Farrand. Mary grew up in the Quinlan area where she attended school through the eleventh grade. When the Quinlan school closed she transferred to Mooreland where she graduated from high school.

  On December 29, 1957 she was united in marriage to George Samuel Hammans at Woodward, Oklahoma. Their first home was in Woodward until 1960 when George was employed in construction which took them to several various states. Four children came to bless the home; Rosemary Ruth, Daniel Dewayne, Simeon Samuel and Michael Lee. They returned to Woodward in 1969 and Mary was employed as a cafeteria cook with the Woodward Schools. She worked off and on for the school for over twenty years.

  Mary was saved when she was a child at the Quinlan Christian Church. She and her family attended the First Assembly of God Church where Mary was in charge of the nursery. She then attended the Full Gospel Assembly and later the New Beginnings Church.

Mary enjoyed crafts of all kinds, gardening and sewing. She made the children’s clothing and numerous baby blankets for family and friends. Mary loved children and she cared for many foster children through out the years. She was known for caring for others and her special love of children.

  She is survived by her husband George of the home, one daughter, Rosemary Butler and husband Ron of Hydro, Oklahoma; three sons, Daniel Hammans and wife Janice of Quinlan, Simeon Samuel of Woodward and Michael Hammans of Woodward; one sister Carol Guffy; four brothers, Archie Farrand and wife Shirley, John Farrand, Gene Farrand and wife Gail and Everett Farrand and wife Linda; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.

  Memorial contributions may be made to Tupelo Children’s Mansion with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
