Charles "Charlie" Canfield

Woodward, Okla. — Charles "Charlie" Canfield, 78 year old Woodward resident, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 in Oklahoma City following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Malcolm Blakley officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.

Charles Norton Canfield was born on February 22, 1935 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Otto "Bus" and Margaret Rachel (Hughes) Canfield. He was raised in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School. Charlie was united in marriage to Shirley Westenhaver on February 9, 1955 in Webb, Oklahoma. They made their home in Woodward and have lived here since that time.

Charlie loved working in the garden and "Making a Circle" with his good friend Bob Westenhaver. He also enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Webb and watching his great-grandkids play.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Canfield of the home; children, Debbie McAdoo and husband Kent of Woodward, Chuck Canfield of Woodward, Linda Jackson and husband John of Woodward, Kenneth Canfield of Woodward, and the twins, Ilene Bruce of Fox, Jolene Martin of Woodward; grandchildren, Kim Alvarez and husband Juan of Woodward, Robyn Morris of Woodward, Lucas Blackard and wife Melissa of Sharon, Gabriel Blackard and wife Amy of Arnett, Rodney Jackson of Woodward, Rachel Kahoe and husband Wes of Mooreland, Rusty Jackson of Woodward, Eric Canfield of Woodward, Ron Presley and wife Melissa of Woodward, Michael Bruce and wife Carrie of Velma, Sheila Bruce of Duncan, Crystal Hyatt of Woodward, Carissa Estes and husband Keith of Woodward, TJ McAdoo of Woodward; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Fields of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Marcella "Sally" Wallace of Woodward; one brother, Robert Canfield and wife Denise of Woodward; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Vernon Canfield, son-in-law, Ronnie Bruce, grandson, Daniel "Danny" Maze and an infant grandson.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
