Bill Meadows, longtime Woodward businessman, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Billy Joe Meadows was born on July 4, 1929 in Tyler, Texas to Erwin Eugene and Mary Viola (Hoskins) Meadows. Bill grew up in Tyler and graduated from Chapel Hill High School in Tyler in 1947. Bill was united in marriage to Alma “Wynelle” Gandy on February 3, 1950 in Tyler, Texas at his Uncle Leonard Meadows home. They were blessed with four children, Jon, Billy, Kelly, and Shelly. They made their first home in Houston, Texas before moving to Tyler and Bossier City, Louisiana. In 1962, the family moved to Woodward where they have lived since that time.

When Bill was young, he worked at a gas station and a mattress company. He also worked for Delta Drilling Company, McCullough Tool Company and was Owner and Operator of Brand X Perforators in Woodward for a number of years. He also was the owner of SASCO Machine Shop.

Bill was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, where served as a Deacon for many years. He was also very involved in the Celebration Choir and his Sunday School Class, Adult 6. One of the things he loved the most was hugging and greeting people at church. He Loved his Church. Bill also enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, golf, snowmobiling, going to auctions, farming, traveling, grilling, and spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Bill was blessed and didn’t mind sharing what he had.

He is survived by his children, Jon DonCarlos and husband Keith of Woodward, Billy Meadows and wife Penny of Fulshear, Texas, Kelly Meadows and wife Camille of Sealy, Texas, Shelly Jacobs and husband Gary of Woodward; two brothers, Alton Meadows and wife Charlene of Tyler, Texas, Tillman Meadows and wife Rene of Tyler, Texas; ten grandchildren, Bryan DonCarlos, Shyla Funk, Brandee Gartrell, Tara Meadows, Rianne Murphy, T.J. Meadows, Billie Meadows, Bristi Jenkins, Cody Jacobs, Jordan Ramirez; 21 grandchildren and soon to be 22, Sage, Mattie, Hattie, Chloee, Zachary, Tucker, Reese, Allie, Selby, Kobe, Kadon, Kyra, Blayre, Gunner, Libee, Gracelyn, Landry, Bode, Aikan, Houstyn, Macklin, and soon to be Ainslee; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Viola Meadows, his in-laws, Ed and Alma Gandy, his precious wife of 61 years, Wynelle, one brother, Harold Meadows, sister, Tootsie Unger, grandson Shane Hurley and a great-granddaughter, Saria Clark.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Music Ministry with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
