Willamae Stanley

Woodward, Okla. —

Willamae Stanley, 88 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, August 1, 2013 in the Vici Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Willamae Louise (Ball) Selby Stanley was born on June 14, 1925 in Woodward County, Oklahoma to George O. and Josie (Fothergill) Ball. She was reared in the Sharon area and attended school in Sharon. Willamae was united in marriage to Richard R. “Dick” Selby on October 27, 1945 in Ashland, Kansas. They were blessed with one son, Jim. They made their first home in Fulton, Missouri, where Willamae worked as a Switch Board Operator. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1949 and Willamae worked for Sears for many years. They moved to Woodward in 1981 and they owned and operated Mae’s Laundrymat from 1981 until 1988. They had over 40 wonderful years together. Dick preceded her in death on October 23, 1988.

She was united in marriage to Marion P. Stanley on May 11, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Woodward and had 19 enjoyable years together. Marion preceded her in death on March 13, 2012.

Willamae was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the hospital for a number of years, and delivered meals on wheels. She enjoyed bird watching, collecting Beanie Babies, bowling, but most of all she loved being with her family. Willamae was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, who’s sweet nature will be greatly missed. She was an excellent cook who cooked with love.

She is survived by her son, Jim Selby and wife Cathy of Guthrie; five grandchildren, Jamie and Mark Hamlin of Edmond, Jim and Kristi Selby of Red Oak, Texas, Leon Selby of Oklahoma City, Joe Selby of Oklahoma City and Tim Selby of Oklahoma City; seven great-grandchildren, Kristin Hill, James and Alex Selby, Brooke Selby, Evan, Grant and Kate Hamlin and Caden Selby; three great-great-grandchildren, Helen Hill, Keetyn and Quentin Selby; step-daughter, Florence Gathright of Clinton; step-grandson, David Gathright and wife Jennie of Colorado; step-granddaughter, Julie Gathright of Edmond; two brothers, Roy Ball and wife Arnetta, John E. Ball; four sisters, Patsy McDaniel, Norma Story and husband Jerry, Ramona Jackson, Audrey Crites; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ball and Donna Ball; many nieces and nephews whom loved her, “their Aunt Mae.”

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
