Woodward, Okla. —

Van “Jay“ York passed away at his home in Tyrone, OK on June 29, 2013. He was born August 28, 1964 in Joliet, IL to Van York and Wanda Abbey York King. He attended Channahon and Minooka schools before moving to Oklahoma in 1979. Jay worked in a variety of fields in IL and MO and primarily in the oil and gas industries when living in Oklahoma.

Jay enjoyed baseball and wrestling in his younger years and became an avid dirt-bike and racing enthusiast. He enjoyed attending races with his dad, uncle Dave, and cousins Rick and Steven and loved tinkering with his bikes.

He was well known for his contagious laugh; brought on easily by a good story or joke. The time he spent creating special bonds with his nephew Mikey and niece Anna were also steeped with smiles and laughter.

Jay is survived by his parents; Wanda and Paul K King of Woodward, OK and Van and Joyce York of Channahon, IL, a sister Rhonda & Roger Krull of Springfield, MO, two brothers; Steve of Woodward, OK and Eric and Jackie of Tyrone, OK, a nephew Mikey York of Tyrone, OK and a niece Anna York of Woodward, OK, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Mike York, his grandparents; Lewis and Ruth York and Emmett and Frieda Abbey and a close cousin, Larry D. Abbey. A memorial service to celebrate his time with us is planned for a later date.
